Diesel is a devious diesel engine who only appeared in the Railway Series book "Duck and the Diesel Engine". He came as a visitor, and took a dislike to Duck after he left him to tidy up a mess he made while trying to pull some old trucks. He spread rumours that Duck had given rude nicknames to the big engines, but the Fat Controller never believed him and sent him away after he spread rumours about Henry.
In the television series, he first appeared in the second season. He was sent away, but returned due to an engine shortage in the third season. He was banished permanently after pushing some trucks into the sea, but later returned mysterioulsy in "mavis" to give Mavis advice. He was then only seen in scenes set on the Other Railway until the sixth season, when he was borrwed to do goods work while Henry was being mended. He appears to have stayed on, and lately has started to show his good side.
Diesel is based on a BR Class 08 0-6-0.
